Running Fit was the 2008 winner of the Ubuntu Award, a special honor to recognize the leading running specialty store in the world for outstanding community service and involvement. "The word 'Ubuntu' has no literal translation in English, but in essence it means humanism, a shared world view or vision of humanity. It's about the principle of caring for each other, and a spirit of mutual support.” Thanks to your support, Running Fit made donations of more than $100,000 last year for many great causes, including a $42,000 check to Motts Children’s hospital, a $2,000 purchase of a defibrillator for a Pinckney Recreation area, and the list goes on. Experience Our Superior Service Meet Some of Our Staff Jeff Gaft, our Traverse City, South Airport store manager, has been with Running Fit since our beginning in 1985! Jeff, his wife Darby and two kids live in an 80 year old farmhouse in Honor, MI. Jeff has run a lot of races… which is an understatement! Jeff has run 75 Ultra-marathons of 50 to 100 miles each and 90 Marathons, including a streak of 31 Detroit Free Press Marathon finishes. Some of Jeff’s highlights are the 1984 Boston Marathon (2:38 PR), starting the Trail Marathon in 1987, and he finished his first 50 Mile in 1982 at the Ice Age Trail. Rachel Ingle manages our Northville Store. Rachel absolutely loves teaching Running 101. You should take her class! Some of Rachel’s race highlights include the Trail Marathon in 2006, Bayshore Marathon in 2009, DWD Gnawbone in 2007, Winter Witchy Wolf Run 2006–2011, and Boston 2005 and 2010. Rachel started running in 1994 when she joined the Cross Country team at her high school. Outside of running, Rachel enjoys skiing, yoga, video games and her two black cats. Todd Snyder, the manager of the Ann Arbor, Jackson Rd. store, moved back to the Detroit area with his wife and two children to work at Running Fit. Todd’s most memorable running experience was while he lived in Philadelphia for a year and ran to the Museum of Art and up the steps like Rocky! One racing highlight was getting outkicked by Ian Forsyth in the 1996 Gator Relays 5000m Race. A fun fact about Todd: he does a great impression of Chewbacca, the wookiee from Star Wars. iStockphoto |
